2007 a year in fishing infamy...

What a year !!!

The Lord blessed me this year with many, many fishing opportunities.
  • I fished at Crappie Camp on Lake Greeson in Arkansas and won 2nd place in Big Crappie (1 lb. 15 oz.).
  • I went to Hawkridge Fly Casting Clinic in Glen Rose, Texas.
  • I fly fished on the South Llano River in Junction, Texas at Oktoberfisch.
  • I went with some buddies to Beavers Bend, Oklahoma fly fishing on the Lower Mountain Fork River.
  • Patty and I crappie fished on Lake Bonham and she claims to have outfished me.
  • Aaron and I crappie fished on Lake Bonham and he caught a 6 pound LMB.
  • Patty and I went to the TFF Bream Bustin/Fish Fry event at Fairfield Lake.
  • I fished Towne Lake, Coffee Mill, Lake Fork, Lake Pickens, Texoma, Loy Lake, Waterloo Lake (for rainbow trout), Lake Lavon, Lake Lewisville, Ray Roberts, The Red River, and Lake Dean Gilbert.
  • Yesterday I fished Tawakoni with my brother and DJ from the yak.
  • I visited the Dallas and Red River Fly Fishing Clubs on several occasions.
  • I participated in a fly swap and am currently tying jigs for a jig swap.
Additionally:
  • I attended the TPWD Angler Instructors Course and am now certified to teach youth the life-long sport of fishing.
  • Patty bought me a new boat and motor for Valentines Day.

  • I got two kayaks.
It's going to be tough to top this in 2008 but I intend to do it. :-)

Oops I did it again...

Went out this morning for a while fishing with jigs. Slow trolling in the yak and BAM, hooked a 12" crappie. Paddled around a liitle more and then the rod bent double and the ride was on. I had no clue what was on my line. After stripping the drag and towing me around for a while I got him up where I could see him. Of course I left my scale at home but I believe this to be one of the biggest crappie I've ever caught.

I released him and his buddy so I can hopefully catch them again one day.

First Big Bass on the Fly

A buddy told me I need to try this new lake.
Okay, I tried it.
Caught a few bass and then BAM caught this big boy.

NEVER buy or use a $20 waterproof digital camera.
If you do plan on not having any fish pictures.

OUR TRIP TO BROKEN BOW

Myself and 3 buddies went on a fly fishing trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma Thursday and Friday.
We fished in the Lower Mountain Fork River for trout.
It was some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.
I had 3 strikes but caught no fish.
My buddy Rusty caught his first fish on the fly yesterday.

The fly fishin dude catches fish

Two fly rods was not enough. Thanks to Capt. Barry I had to have a 6.5 ft. 4 wt. ultralite rod and reel. I have really enjoyed that rig. I have fished it at work during my lunch break and at Towne Lake in McKinney with great success. Here's a big ole 3/4 pound gill from the lake at work on a black and white ant that I tied.

I'm HOOKED on fly fishin.

Fly Casting Clinic

Some buddies and I are planning a trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma to do some fly fishing next month. The problem with that was I didn't own a fly rod and if I did I don't know how to cast one anyway. So, I ran out and bought a fly rod. I was so proud. My buddies tell me it's too big for trout fishing. Okay, no problem, I go buy another one that will work at the river. I still don't have a clue how to cast it. That night I'm playing on TFF and find a post about a Fly Casting Clinic in Glenrose. I went to it and boy am I glad I did. They taught an "old dog some new tricks". Here I am learning and having lots of fun doing it.
